Martinus Rail – Cassidy Parade Public Access Bridge (Inland Rail A2P)

First Scaff was engaged by Martinus Rail to design and deliver a temporary public pedestrian bridge over the active ARTC rail corridor at Cassidy Parade, Wagga Wagga, as part of the Inland Rail Albury to Parkes (A2P) Enhancement Project.

The structure combined a 20.576 m clear-span bridge with more than 84 m of ramps on steep, uneven embankments, fully enclosed and fitted out for unsupervised public use with compliant handrails, non-slip flooring, security mesh and solar lighting.

When the rail possession for the bridge works was cut from five days to two and a crane lift wasn’t viable, our team developed a staged build-in-place method using the Proscaf modular system. The span was assembled over temporary scaffold, made freestanding and the support removed in time for the scheduled test train. The facility was handed over around nine weeks after quoting, with no recordable safety incidents.
